Daily Routine

A typical morning at The Mountain School includes:

Circle time: song, verse, and movement creatively reflecting the seasons of the year
Free or imaginative play: dressing up, playing house, building structures, role-playing, making believe
, creative problem solving, rule-setting, negotiating...in other words, preparing for life!
Arts and crafts: watercolor painting, beeswax modeling, baking/cooking, handcrafts, seasonal crafts and activities
Music: woven into everything we do, plus a weekly visit from music and dance specialist
Clean up: a place for everything, and everything in its place! We all take good care of our classrooms and share in practical tasks.
Snack: homemade, wholesome, organic, vegetarian and really, really delicious; the school provides, the children help prepare
Outdoor play: rain or shine, and the occasional neighborhood walk

Storytelling: engaging tales from the folk and fairy tale traditions, often including a puppet show or play
 in which the children participate
Lunch: brought from home, with a helping of conversation

Our Afternoon Program includes:

Outdoor play: a little fresh air before settling down for some quiet time
Storytime: a soothing tale to ease us into sleep or rest
Rest time: a rest or a nap, depending on your instructions
Snack: more homemade yumminess, provided by the school
Craft projects: sewing, building, drawing, and more
Indoor play: a little more time with the toys before putting them to sleep until tomorrow!
